Cornering

Start / Calculations / Performance Calculations / Cornering

The Cornering page determines cornering performance based on these inputs:

Corner radius of the vehicle (not the track)

Banking of the track

Road grade of the track

Speed of the vehicle

Weight of the vehicle

CG height of the vehicle

Track width of the vehicle (not the road / track)

Traction of the vehicle

The lateral acceleration (cornering force) depends only on the speed of the vehicle and the turn radius and bank. All other calculated information requires the vehicle weight, CG height, and track width.

Traction is used only to determine cornering capacity.

This calculation assumes the vehicle is in a steady-state speed and steering angle.
