Start / Terms / Acceleration Test
An acceleration test is made in one gear to determine engine torque. The duration of the acceleration test must be long enough to be meaningful but short enough to keep the engine near its torque peak, or near the engine speed you wish to measure. Second gear, or third gear for faster cars, works well. The test should be performed on a level road with no head or tail wind. Using the average result from multiple tests, especially with varying locations and directions, provides the most accurate result.
