Rolling Resistance

Start / Terms / Rolling Resistance

Rolling resistance is defined as the drag induced by friction. It includes tire/road friction, mechanical drivetrain friction, etc. To find the rolling resistance for your vehicle, pull the vehicle with a tow vehicle, using a hanging scale or other pull measuring device. You will need a straight, level road and fair, calm weather. Observe the weight readings on the scale as the vehicle is towed at various steady speeds.
