Compression Ratio

Start / Calculations / Engine Calculations / Compression Ratio

The Compression Ratio page determines the mechanical compression ratio of an engine based on the following:

Bore diameter

Stroke length

Rod length (used for the dynamic CR calculation)

Intake valve closes (used for the dynamic CR calculation)

Cylinder head volume

Deck height

Head gasket bore

Head gasket thickness

Piston dish volume

The dynamic compression ratio calculation uses the intake valve closing point, which is after BDC, so this ratio is always less than the static ratio.
